Manufacturer of electronic road safety equipment launches Conroe operations


Canadian company Ver-Mac bought a 71,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Conroe Park North and moved its US operations from Houston to Conroe in December.

According to information from the Greater Conroe Economic Development Council, Ver-Mac will use its Conroe facility to continue creating innovative work zone safety solutions that make roads safer for drivers and construction workers.

A third generation family business, Ver-Mac has grown from a drilling equipment conversion shop in 1957 to a global manufacturer and supplier of electronic road safety equipment. The company produces electronic road equipment such as arrow signs, speed signs and traffic cameras.

“When we went to see Conroe’s shop, we knew right away that it suited us. We said, ‘This place is awesome.’ The choice was made before we even left the parking lot,” said Adam Chelo, Conroe operations manager of Ver-Mac, adding that the company had been occupying its Houston location for about two and a half years.

Ver-Mac closed the facility in October 2021 and began operating in Conroe in mid-December. Chelo praised the skilled workforce in the Conroe area and its ability to operate in an ecosystem that fosters collaboration.

“Location is very important to us. We’ve found that the workforce we get at Conroe is made up of skilled people,” Chelo said. “There is also the advantage of having access to suppliers. Instead of having to wait hours for someone to drop off coins, most of the time we know of a business that is just around the corner. »

Ver-Mac currently employs 75 people at its Conroe plant.

“It’s a good marriage of culture between what we have already grown in Quebec and what we can find here. The employees we hire settle in quickly and everyone feels like part of the family,” added Chelo.

Chelo said the company is already planning to expand.

“There’s so much more open space to move to Conroe,” he said. “We will be able to expand and continue to improve our facility in ways we weren’t able to before.”
